2023 MIDDLE SCHOOL BATTLE OF THE BOOKS

The Dow Library hosted a 2023 individual Battle of the Books competition for middle-school students in grades 6, 7, and 8.  Students signed up independently on the Dow Library website as an individual or as a team of 2.  The competition included only 5 books, but students were given fewer weeks to read them before completing 2 online battles.  The top 3 teams in the city competed head-to-head, as did the top 3 individuals to award a champion in each division. This in-person competition took place at the Dow Library MCTV studio in a “jeopardy-style” competition, complete with buzzers and with 25 total questions.  The Battle was recorded and can be viewed on the MCTV site!

In addition to Gloria Stark entering as a individual, St. John’s had two teams sign up for the middle-school battle, consisting of 7th graders Mabel Elliott & Eli Trombley, as well as 8th graders Bailee Lowe & Lily Brown.

Eighth-grader GLORIA STARK went on to WIN 1ST PLACE in the city – Congratulations GLORIA!

*St. John’s Lutheran School students have dominated the Battle at the middle-school level, having won 1st place every year!  In 2022, 7th grader Hayden Rozewski finished 1st in the city.
