Extended Learning

At St. John’s, we know learning doesn’t end when students leave the classroom, so we provide many extra-curricular activities that engage our students in real-life experiences and showcase their skills within the school, church, and community. Through each of these extra-curricular activities, not only are students learning cutting-edge skills and applying them to unique situations, but each group works with people from the community and living by example as children of God.
Within the Midland community, St. John’s participates in:
  • CANstruction – 3D design and construction, presented at the Midland Mall
  • Space Farming – St. John’s manipulates/emulates a setting to grow plants in space
  • Salmon Growing – students acquire salmon eggs from the DNR and grow them throughout the winter for a spring release in the river
  • Math Night – Student-lead group presentations based on math concepts to the St. John’s Community and families
  • Literacy Night – Individual and group presentations to enrich Literacy program at St. John’s
  • Battle of the Books – Groups partner with the Grace A. Dow Library Battle of the Books program to compete
  • Midland Art Contest – Students independently enter a Midland-wide art contest
  • Music Festival – Students perform individually or in groups in front of judges from area schools to receive a rating
  • Christmas Service – St. John’s students lead two Advent Christmas worship services at St. John’s Lutheran Church
  • And more!
