” if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. ” 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Throughout history the people of God have come together to fast and pray at critical moments:
- When the Jews faced destruction at the hand of Haman, Queen Esther called upon the Jewish people to fast and pray before she went to make intercession on their behalf before the king (See Esther Chapter 4).
- When the Jewish Exiles in Babylon were seeking a safe journey for themselves, their children, and their possessions back to Jerusalem, Ezra proclaimed a fast that they might humble themselves before God and entreat His protection (see Ezra Chapter 8).
- Moses fasted before he received the 10 commandments and Jesus, Himself, fasted after His Baptism. There are many other examples…
In keeping with this history, and in response to God’s command to pray for those who are in authority (1 Timothy 2:2), we would like to set aside Monday, November 7th, the day before the election, as a day of fasting and prayer on behalf of this country and for the election itself. Will you join us? In addition to praying on your own, the Weller Chapel will be open for prayer from 9am to 2pm if you’d like to stop in.
God’s peace be with you, and God bless our land.
Some way to pray (taken from 30 Ways to Pray for People in Authority by Intercessors for America)
1. Pray that our leaders would be God-fearing and recognize that they are accountable to Him for each decision and act.
2. Pray that our leaders would be granted wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
3. Pray, if our leaders do not know Jesus, that they might be drawn into a saving relationship with Him.
4. Pray that our leaders be surrounded with godly counsel and God – fearing advisors.
5. Pray that our leaders would be just, ruling in the fear of God.
6. Pray that our leaders would be protected from the schemes of the enemy.
7. Pray that our leaders would have courage to resist manipulation, pressure, and the fear of man.
