Kids Ministry

OUR MISSION

Here at SJL KIDS we believe that these formative years can have a huge impact on a person’s faith.  We aim to help our youngest congregation members to experience the Gospel in a compelling, real, and clear way.  Sundays are divided up in worship, dynamic Bible teachings, and small groups.  We hope kids learn they are deeply loved by God and have a church community supporting them.

Join us in the Summer of 2026 at St. John’s playground for Family Fun Meetups

Drop in anytime between 10:00 AM and 12:00 noon for a morning of play, connection, and community. This open-house style event invites parents or caregivers with children to enjoy time together, build relationships, and end the morning with a short devotional.

We’ll meet every 2 weeks on Wednesdays:  July 1, 15, 29, & August 12 (will move indoors in case of inclement weather).  If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie at sdavis@sjlmidland.org

Game Nights will take place on July 1 and August 5 from 6:00–7:30 PM. We hope to see you there (NOTE:  parents are not required to stay)!  If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie at sdavis@sjlmidland.org

SUNDAY SCHOOL

The curriculum for the 2026-27 year is “The Gospel Project” where the entire story of Scripture points to Jesus.  Through this curriculum we hope kids can see Jesus from Genesis to Revelations.

  • Sunday School classes meet weekly between worship services for PreK through 5th graders with the following schedule:
    • Check-in:  children should arrive between 9:15 and 9:25 am at the Sunday School Room (#4, next to Weller Chapel)
    • Large Group:  all children will learn and interact with the Bible story in an engaging way
    • Small Group:  kids will be divided into smaller groups by age and explore the Bible story deeper in a way targeted to their age group; this is a time to connect with others and leaders
    • Check-out:  parents should wait by the door and a volunteer will dismiss our child (parents not allowed in the classroom)

VOLUNTEER TO HELP

They say it takes a village to raise a child, the same is true for St. John’s KIDS MINISTRY.  From leading a small group to helping prepare Sunday materials, each role is essential in helping kids grow in faith.  Each of our volunteers will have a background check and are equipped by training throughout the year.  Our goal is for our volunteers to feel inspired and equipped to teach and build genuine relationships with the kids they serve.  CLICK HERE to complete the online VOUNTEER FORM

Faith Five:  daily devotional plan for families to share

    • Add the FAITH5 to your family’s daily routine and watch as it draws you closer to God and one another! FAITH5 is a simple five-step tool for every night in every home. Family members SHARE their highs and lows, READ a Bible verse or story, TALK about how that reading relates to their highs and lows, PRAY for one another, and BLESS one another. Whether you find time around the dinner table, on the way home from school, or right before bed, use this tool as a daily opportunity to connect with the people you love and with your Heavenly Father who loves you most!
    • FAITH5 bookmarks are available on the Family Life bulletin board across from the church office.
    • CLICK HERE to view the first of 5 blog posts which explain each of the steps (use arrow at bottom to forward thru all 5)
