Today was another busy day sharing God’s love in Cambodia! Sometimes it feels like we get two days worth of work done in one day. After breakfast on the veranda by the river, we were picked up at 8:30 and joined Ashley, Samantha, and Maria for a morning devotion which included communion. We then had a little time to prepare for the English class and the flouride treatments. In record time part of the team had the new trampoline pad and net in place. Bruce was the first to venture in and all held, so Julie went next and did a few jumps and an almost successful seat bounce up. Another project was replacing the swing chains. Julie hacksawed away while Bruce used tools and muscles to aid in removing the seats from the chains.
Sharing Lunch & Love with Cambodia Children!
Soon it was time for the children to arrive for lunch. It was rice and chicken curry which was delicious, along with cake which was sweet sticky rice, I think. Then I led devotions. The first group was the 3rd and 4th graders. I used Rick Warren’s book about the greatness of God’s love. Anna played a guitar and led us in sing “God Loves us Dearly”.
Time to head to ELS class and fluoride . In ELS class the kids practiced meeting people and asking our names and asking how we were. Then we enjoyed some of the books the Zion kids made for the students. Fluoride was next door to ELS today and I heard that Pastor Kempin, Julie and Bruce were very entertaining. Was there dancing? Did they blow up rubber gloves?
Next group was the 5th and 6th grades and it is all repeated. The children are the blessing. They smile and they hug. They all come in their school uniforms on their bikes or walk. One little girl has My teachers love Jesus written in marker on her wrist. And, oh my, can they ever sing!
Sharing a Cambodia Shopping Trip
Julie, Jesse and Mary Ann went off to look for new clamps for attaching the swing seats. We also bought paint for the mural projects. It took stopping at 7 different stores which Jesse called Home Depots (but really were not) until suitable clamps were found. We got back to discover the crew drinking coconut milk out of a real coconut. They had successfully completed taking off the old covering from the tables and replacing it with new vinyl.
It is now 5 o’clock and time for the 7 to 9th graders. Now we have some driving up on their own motos. Devotions again and ELS and flouride.
The sun turns the sky pinkish orange over the mountains and most of the groups is off for Indian food for the evening meal. The day finishes with thanking God for our wonderful day and the chance to be sharing God’s love in Cambodia.
