It’s time, once again, to begin International Friends, a collaboration with foreign students attending Northwood University here in Midland. The potluck will take place on the Northwood Campus in the Four Seasons Space, located in front of Strosacker Library in the heart of campus.
This year there are several athletes coming to Northwood to play tennis, soccer, track and golf. As a family partner, we ask that you invite your student to do something with you once a month during the school year, such as a meal at a restaurant, walk at Dow Gardens, attend a local event. We hope you will invite them to your home for a meal. It is not uncommon for students to come to America to study…and never get invited into an American home. This is our chance to show hospitality to a student far from their home and family.

Here is a quote from a student partner: “The International Friends program was and is such a meaningful experience for me and helped me feel more at home. Moving to a new country can feel overwhelming at first, but having a local family who genuinely cared and supported me made a huge difference. It gave me a sense of belonging, helped me learn more about the culture and community and provided a place where I felt welcomed off campus.”
